Shaw ran for the cargo bay, his heavy boots slamming into the floor. He ran through the patching procedure in his mind. They didn't have time for mistakes. He needed to get it right the first time or else there was going to be a serious abundance of death happening on their tiny ship.

The wolf skidded to a halt in front of the bay door. The heavy door shook against the vacuum stealing away their air on the other side. He pressed his hand to the seal. Icy air nipped at his palm.

Lena had been optimistic with her estimate. The poorly sealed door didn't have more than another minute or two before it was going to buckle and fail against the void on the other side.

Shit. He didn't start his day planning to have all the oxygen sucked out of his lungs. Besides, it would be a real bummer to die after finally meeting a female he wanted to keep.

He might be a stubborn Lupari, but Shaw wasn't an idiot. The fiery little bounty hunter might be human, but she was a perfect match for him.

And he wasn't about to die before he had convinced her of the same.

Shaw ripped open the cabinet by the door. He glanced at the full evac suit and dismissed it in an instant. There wasn't enough time. The blistering cold would kill him in seconds... but maybe not his other form.

The wolf was stronger. It could buy him an extra minute or two.

He peeled his shirt off and gritted his teeth. Bones cracking and reassembling, he forced his body to change at lightning speed. Fur sprouted from his skin. It wouldn’t do much against the blistering cold, but it would have to be enough.

He snagged the emergency oxygen mask from the shelf with his claws. It wasn't meant for the vacuum of space, but it would do. Moving as quickly as his claws would allow, he settled the mask over his face.

Oxygen leaked as the mask tried to fit awkwardly over his morphed features. Shaw cringed. It wasn't a perfect seal, not by a long shot.

He was just going to have to move fast. Very fast.

He slammed his fist against the door release. The bay doors shuddered open. Air rushed out of the hallway, buffeting him into the wall.

Pushing himself upright, Shaw dug his claws into the wall and held on for dear life. The suction dragged him forward, the icy needles of cold emptiness biting his skin.

He gritted his teeth and stepped through the door. The bay doors struggled to close behind him. He needed to move faster. The old seals weren't going to hold for long and soon the oxygen would start to vent from the rest of the ship. Including navigation.

Only three sets of doors stood between Lena and the destructive force of space.

Grabbing the emergency patch kit from its place by the door, Shaw scanned the cargo bay for the breach. The only good thing about having a hole in your ship was that it was a breeze to spot.
